About us
Medica Gjakova (MGJ) was established in July 2011 as a non-governmental organization by a group of dedicated individuals who had been working together since August 1999 in Gjakova and the surrounding areas, under the framework of Medica Mondiale (MM). The organization’s mission is “to improve the mental and physical well-being of traumatized women, with a particular focus on those who have survived sexualized violence during the war in Kosovo, and to influence social policies to support the well-being of these survivors and their integration into all areas of life.”
To achieve this mission, the management and professional staff at MGJ implement fundamental activities such as psychological and gynecological counseling, as well as services aimed at economic empowerment. In addition to these core services, MGJ also conducts social and political advocacy to increase awareness among both the general public and government officials about the challenges faced by women survivors of war crimes, highlighting the need for policies that ensure their well-being and social integration. Through these combined efforts, MGJ has helped women cope with social stigma and challenge taboo topics that directly impact human rights and women's rights.
