The psycho-social team consists of five highly experienced professionals, some of whom have been providing support since 1999 to individuals affected by various war-related traumas. Our primary focus is on aiding survivors of gender-based and sexualized violence from that time. Central to our work are the principles of confidentiality and empathy, ensuring that every client is treated with dignity and respect. We adopt a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes stress sensitivity, with the key elements of our methodology being Safety, Connection, Empowerment, and Self-Care.<\/p>\n
We offer a comprehensive array of services, including individual, group, couple, family, and youth counseling, along with support groups tailored to meet the diverse needs of our clients. A vital aspect of our work is assisting and guiding clients through the process of applying for pensions designated for survivors of sexualized war violence in Kosovo, providing them with the emotional and practical support they need throughout this journey.<\/p>\n
Our main aim is to improve the psycho-emotional well-being of our clients, offering not just counseling but also valuable psychoeducation on mental health, helping them to regain their strength and build resilience for the future.<\/p>\n

The economic sector at Medica Gjakova plays an important role in the empowerment of women, working tirelessly to improve the financial independence and livelihoods of its members. The team, consisting of 8 professionals, focuses on economic empowerment through a diverse range of capacity- building services. These services include specialized training in fields such as agriculture, tailoring, hairdressing, culinary arts, beekeeping, digital marketing, and launching startups. By offering these programs, the sector equips women with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue sustainable careers or even start their own businesses, fostering a sense of autonomy and resilience.<\/p>\n
One of the key achievements of this sector is the successful operation of two stores in Gjakova and Prishtina. These stores showcase and sell products made by the members of Medica Gjakova, providing them with a steady source of income and supporting their families. The sector\u2019s efforts have had a profound impact, helping create a pathway toward financial security for women, especially those who have been affected by war and trauma.<\/p>\n

We are committed to providing comprehensive healthcare services, including individual health consultations, pap smears, and group educational sessions. These efforts address immediate health concerns, and also empower members with the knowledge and awareness of their rights to healthcare and access to essential services.<\/p>\n
A cornerstone of our health services is the Transnational Health Training Program (THTP), which is specifically designed to improve trauma-informed care for women and girls who are survivors of gender- based and sexualized violence. This program goes beyond direct care, aiming to enhance the capacity of other healthcare providers both in the public sector and within civil society organizations. By raising awareness about the right to health and ensuring access to quality healthcare services, the THTP is playing a crucial role in improving the overall health outcomes for survivors while fostering a more responsive and trauma-sensitive healthcare system.<\/p>\n
